- Aydarkul Lake (the desert oasis) — A surprisingly large lake sitting in the heart of the Kyzylkum; its sandy shores and reed-lined bays attract tens of migratory birds, make for easy shoreline walks, campsite breakfasts and dramatic desert reflections at sunrise.
- Rolling dunes and sand-steppe mosaics — Not Sahara-level giants, but long ridges and soft dune fields that you can walk, scramble and photograph. Best at golden hour when the light sculpts the ripples and the desert cools down.
- Wildlife spotting: saiga, goitered gazelles and kulan (Asiatic wild ass) — The park is one of the few places in Central Asia where these species survive or are being reintroduced. - Tugai gallery forests and old riverbeds — Narrow ribbons of poplars and reeds along intermittent streams create a different, surprisingly green micro-habitat. Great for birding (warblers, raptors) and a cool contrast after walking the open desert.
- Seasonal salt flats and shallow wetlands — After rains or when irrigation feeds the basin, shallow lakes and salt pans appear and attract flocks of waders and waterfowl. The ephemeral patterns in the salt are also oddly beautiful for photos.
- Spring wildflower carpets — When conditions line up the steppe bursts with tiny, delicate flowers and grasses. It’s brief but spectacular; late March-May is the window to catch the colour.
- Night skies and stargazing — With almost no light pollution, the Milky Way is vivid and meteors feel close. Bring a warm layer, a thermos, and a blanket — the desert night is cold but unforgettable.
