Cloud forest at Yurubí hums at dawn with howler monkeys, a sound you hear from the trails above the Yurubí river canyon. The park sits in Yaracuy state, in the north of Venezuela, inland from Puerto Cabello. Paths are muddy, signage is thin, and facilities are basic, so skip it if you want polish. 🛏️ Where to stay?How to pick the right area

Most backpackers sleep in San Felipe, the Yaracuy state capital about 15 to 25 minutes from the park entrances by road, where simple hotels and posadas cost US$10 to 30 a night. Inside the park, lodging is very limited, and a few visitors camp near the ranger posts with permission from Inparques, the national parks agency. Chivacoa is the closest town to the Sorte mountain area and has basic posadas at around US$8 to 20. Barquisimeto, roughly 1.5 to 2 hours away, has more choice, including hostels and mid-range hotels from US$20 to 50, and suits you if you arrive by bus.
