Sri Lanka Itinerary Planner

Tell us how many days you have, what pulls you (villages, hikes, beaches, national parks, landmarks, cities and towns, attractions) and how fast you like to move, and the route takes shape around you. Want mornings of Yala National Park dust and jeep engines, or slow afternoons with tea steam and temple bells? Set your pace, name a start, an end or a must-see stop, and the plan bends to your priorities.

🙋 FAQFrequently asked questions

Five days gives you a taste of one or two areas, ten days lets you cover hills, culture and coast without constant rushing, and fifteen days adds slower stretches, more hiking and wildlife time.
Sri Lanka is an island, so there is no overland border, but the Maldives lie a short flight to the southwest and southern India sits just across the Palk Strait, making both easy to pair with a trip here.

Build a multi-country route
Yes. Stops are sequenced to minimize backtracking and grouped by how close they are to each other, and your chosen travel pace (fast, normal, or slow) adjusts how much ground each day covers.
Absolutely. Adjust your trip length, interests, starting point, or travel style and generate a new route in seconds.
Yes, generating and viewing your route is completely free. An offline-friendly PDF version is available as an optional purchase which gives more detailed information for each location on your route.

🗺️ RegionsWhere things are located

Sri Lanka looks small on a map, yet winding roads, hill switchbacks and heavy traffic make distances feel longer than the kilometers suggest. Galle Fort sits on the hot, salt-breezy southwest coast, while Kandy is up in cooler, damp hills, and Arugam Bay lies far across on the dry east, so one day can change the whole climate around you. The planner keeps nearby places together, so you spend your hours at a temple gate or on a beach, not staring out a window at the same road twice.

⚙️ How it worksThe logic behind your route

The planner starts by grouping places that sit close together, so you aren’t zigzagging across the island on long, sweaty road days. It then picks one sensible direction through those groups, so you move steadily from one end of your route to the other instead of crossing your own tracks. Finally, each stop gets time that fits its type and what surrounds it. A city or town with several attractions nearby becomes a base where you unpack and stay longer, while smaller places within easy reach turn into day trips from it. Take Kandy: with a lake, temples, markets and hill viewpoints all around, it earns several nights, and the nearby spots are visited from the same bed rather than packed into separate moves. Expect honest pacing, too. Busy bases mean more crowds and higher prices, while quieter stops get a shorter, lighter slot. Pick a slower pace and you get fewer moves and more lingering. Pick a faster one and the stops tighten, but the route still flows in one logical line from start to finish.
