Cold spray hits your shins first, then your back as you edge closer, shoes muddy, fingers numb from gripping slick rock, and suddenly the roar of the Bogova waterfall drowns out every other thought. This cascade hides in the hills east of Berat, in central Albania, and the hike in is short, green, and bus-accessible enough that you’ll share it with families in sneakers and the odd hungover backpacker. The trail itself is easy to moderate, more of a riverside ramble than a serious trek, with blue pools and beech forest doing most of the heavy lifting. It’s gorgeous, but it’s not wild solitude; compared to longer routes like Tomorr or Osum Canyon, Bogova is a quick-hit reward, not an epic, and that’s exactly why I still go.
