Your first real decision at Gjipe is simple but brutal: do you pay for the bumpy shuttle or grind your way in on foot under the Albanian sun, earning every meter of that canyon? Gjipe sits on the Ionian coast between Himarë and Vlorë, carved inland from the beach like someone took a knife to the cliffs. The hike itself is short and punchy rather than epic: dusty track, scrubby olives, limestone walls tightening around you, then suddenly the canyon swallows the noise and you’re walking on riverbed stones toward the sea. It’s hot, exposed, and crowded in high season, and public transport only gets you to the main road, so you still walk or hitch the last stretch. Compared to longer Albanian routes like Llogara or Theth–Valbonë, Gjipe is more of a sweaty, high-reward detour than a full mountain day.
