Day highlights:
- Hike through the Gjipe Canyon to the cove — The approach is the real reward: a narrow river-cut canyon, wildflowers in season and a final dramatic drop into the sheltered pebble beach. It’s the classic Gjipe entrance and my personal favorite — the canyon feels properly remote compared with the busier Albanian beaches.
- Swim and snorkel the clear, cliff-backed cove — The water here is exceptionally transparent and the bay is framed by steep limestone, so you get underwater ledges, small reefs and fish close to shore. No crowded sunbeds — it’s pure swimming and snorkeling with rock formations to explore.
- Cliff-top viewpoints and short ridge walks — A short scramble above the beach gives postcard panoramas of the narrow inlet and the Ionian horizon. Great for photos and for

Great for photos and for spotting the way boats thread along the coast. Best done before or after the heat of midday.
- Explore the river mouth, caves and rock features — Where the little stream meets the sea there are pools, pebbled channels and tiny sea-caves carved into the cliffs. It’s fun to poke around at low tide and feels more like a mini-adventure than a typical beach stroll.
- Approach by boat or paddle the coastline — Getting to Gjipe by sea (or paddling from nearby coves) gives a different perspective: the steep cliffs, the secluded mouth and the hiddenness of the bay are more dramatic from the water. It’s a calm, scenic coastal leg rather than party-boat territory.
Night highlights:
- Wild camping and stargazing on the pebbles — Because lights from towns are distant, the Milky Way can be vivid on a clear night. Sleeping under the cliff with the sound of the surf is the quintessential Gjipe night — bring warm layers, a good sleeping pad and leave no trace.
- Moonlit swims and listening to the cove — On calm, moonlit nights the cove turns into a silent, reflective pool. Night swims are peaceful here; just take a torch for safety and beware of rocks when entering/exiting.
- Night photography of the cliffs and sky — The vertical limestone walls make striking foregrounds for long-exposure shots of stars or the moonlit sea. No crowds means you can set up without hassle — tripod essential.
- Dawn-sunrise walk back through the canyon — Not strictly “night,” but starting the return hike in early dawn is a special rhythm: cool air, birdsong and the canyon changing color. It feels like reclaiming the place before the day-trippers arrive.
- Quiet night wildlife and soundscape watching — The mix of river and sea brings frogs, cicadas (in season) and seabird silhouettes on the cliffs at dusk. Sit quietly and you’ll hear a different side of Gjipe than the daytime buzz.
