Everyone comes to Gaiman chasing the Welsh tea houses, but the real reward is slower: the light on the Chubut River valley at dusk, and the odd, quiet dignity of a Patagonian town that never fully let go of its founders' language. Gaiman sits in Chubut province, about 17km from Trelew. It works best as a short, sweet stop rather than a base: a day, maybe two, to walk the old brick streets, sip tea, then push onward toward the coast or the steppe.

  • Riverside along the Chubut: A short walk from center, this strip has the best light in late afternoon and a few guesthouses with river views. Good for longer stays if you want mornings by the water without paying more.

The town center near Plaza Roca is the best base: everything, tea houses, the museum, chapels, is within walking distance, and a handful of small guesthouses here offer budget-friendly rooms with a genuinely social, homely feel. It's quieter and more relaxed than staying in Trelew, with less traffic and a slower pace. The riverside strip is a close second, slightly removed but still walkable, good if you want morning quiet over convenience. Avoid staying outside town without a car, since transport options thin out after dark.
