Dreamworld sits on the Gold Coast’s northern edge, yet it is also home to a tiger show that has run for decades, and a Wildlife Zone with koalas you can actually pay to photograph beside. The park is at Coomera, in Queensland, Australia, roughly halfway between Brisbane and Surfers Paradise. It is pricey, the queues on school holidays are long, and a backpacker budget feels it. The big rides are the reason to go; the carnival-style games are not. I expected a dated amusement park and instead found a koala napping three feet from a family eating ice cream, completely unbothered by the screaming overhead. Rides here are properly big, the vibe is relaxed, and weekdays are calm. Thrill seekers and animal lovers will enjoy it most. Anyone allergic to theme-park prices should skip it.
