- 5fingers (Krippenstein) — Five steel cantilevers jutting out over a sheer drop, each giving a different angle on Hallstatt, the lake and the roofline of the Dachstein massif. It’s short, dramatic and ridiculously photogenic; you can stand out on the platform after a ridge walk and feel like you’re suspended above the valley (without technical climbing).
- Stairway to Nothing / Skywalk (Hunerkogel) — A glass viewing platform and staircase that dangles over the abyss and points straight at the glacier and the high peaks. The vertigo kick is real, but so is the panorama: glacier blue, jagged limestone and distant Alpine valleys — a tiny adrenaline detour that’s unique to Dachstein.
- Dachstein Ice Caves (Eishöhlen) — Walk into a cold, other-worldly cave of ice pillars and frozen formations carved

- Dachstein Ice Caves (Eishöhlen) — Walk into a cold, other-worldly cave of ice pillars and frozen formations carved by ancient glaciers. It’s a proper contrast to the sunny ridgelines above and one of the easiest glacier-related cave experiences you can include on a day hike (guided tours, boardwalks and dramatic lighting).
- Dachstein Glacier and high-alpine plateau — Wide glacial ice, crevasses visible from safe viewpoints and patches of snow even in summer give the Dachstein a real high-mountain feel without needing a multi-day expedition. The flatish karst plateau and glacier edges make for unusual walking compared with typical grassy Alpine trails — stark, raw and spectacular.
- Karst scenery, alpine pastures and wildlife — Jagged limestone pinnacles, sinkholes and turf-y pastures dotted with rustic huts make the Dachstein feel like two landscapes at once: lunar karst and classic Alpine meadows. Hike slowly, and you’ll likely see marmots, chamois or Alpine birds, and find little huts serving dumplings and schnapps — cultural touches you don’t get on purely wild trails.
