- Surf and bodyboarding on the long beach break — Lopes Mendes gets a steady Atlantic swell and a sandy bottom that gives long, punchy rides. Not for absolute beginners when it’s up, but for anyone with some board experience it’s a proper playground and one of the main reasons people trek out here.
- Trail-to-viewpoint panorama — the short rainforest walk up the ridge before the beach opens into a sweeping, crescent-shaped vista of impossibly white sand and turquoise water. It’s the “wow” photo moment and a good place to catch the first color of sunrise. (Personal favorite.)
- End-to-end beach walks and sculpted sand — the sand at Lopes Mendes is unusually fine and bright; low tide carves long, photogenic ripples and temporary sandbars. Walk the whole arc

- End-to-end beach walks and sculpted sand — the sand at Lopes Mendes is unusually fine and bright; low tide carves long, photogenic ripples and temporary sandbars. Walk the whole arc barefoot and you’ll feel how different the sand is from other Brazilian beaches.
- Snorkeling and rock-pool exploring at the headlands — the rocky points at either end shelter clearer water and small reefs where reef fish, crabs and little octopus show up at low tide. It’s compact, quiet snorkeling—bring a mask and watch the sets.
- Wildlife and rainforest edge spotting — the approach trail and the fringe of vegetation around the beach are real Atlantic Forest habitat: you’ll see birds, lizards and sometimes howler monkeys. It’s a nature detour that feels genuine because there’s almost no development to break it up.
- Nighttime highlights (limited)
- Moonlit beach walks and stargazing — with almost zero light pollution, a clear night on Lopes Mendes is spectacular: starlight, the Milky Way and the sound of the surf. Bring a red headlamp and a sweater—nights can get cool by the water.
- Quiet acoustic gatherings and listening to the sea — there’s no club scene here; evenings are low-key. Small, respectful groups sometimes play guitar while others just lie on the sand and listen. It’s atmospheric, not crowded.
- Observe tidal sculptures safely from the shore — after sunset the shapes the tide carved during the day take on a different look under moonlight. It’s best enjoyed from the sand—don’t be tempted to swim after dark because rips are common.
