- Botev Peak — The highest point of the Stara Planina (2,376 m) and the park’s focal summit. Sharp ridgelines, a weather-worn refuge and panoramic views make it a must for serious hikers; you can feel like you’ve escaped Bulgaria’s lowlands in just one long day on the trail.
- Raysko Praskalo Waterfall — One of Bulgaria’s tallest single-drop waterfalls (around 124 m). It’s dramatic in spring and early summer when snowmelt swells it, and the spray plus the surrounding forest gives a proper mountain vibe even on a warm day.
- Kozya Stena Reserve (Goat’s Wall) — A sheer limestone escarpment sheltering old-growth beech forests and rare plants. Access is limited so the place feels wild and intact; birdlife and cliff-nesting raptors are common sights if you keep quiet.
- Central Balkan ridge & Kom-Emine

- Central Balkan ridge & Kom-Emine section — The backbone trail that runs along the spine of the park; long-distance hikers get raw alpine scenery, while day-trippers can hop between huts and ridgeline viewpoints. Expect rocky passes, open karst, and unbeatable sunrise/sunset spots.
- Ancient beech forests — Big, multi-layered beech stands that feel primeval: mossy trunks, rich understory and shade-drenched trails. They’re a big reason the park is ecologically valuable and a joy to wander in when the heat is on lower ground.
- Wildlife watching (bears, wolves, deer, birds of prey) — The park supports large mammals and a healthy roster of raptors; early mornings and dusk are the best windows. Don’t expect guaranteed sightings, but keep a respectful distance and you’ll often hear or see signs of them.
- Alpine meadows and summer pastures — High mountain pastures explode with wildflowers in summer and are dotted with shepherd huts and low stone walls. Great for easy, scenic walking and for a low-effort day of photography or a picnic with views.
