- Cherni Vrah (Black Peak) — Vitosha’s roof at 2,290 m, the classic summit hike with sweeping views over Sofia and the Balkan range. It’s a short-but-satisfying climb from Aleko or Boyana, with alpine meadows, wind-sculpted rock and that proper “I made it” panorama without a long multi-day approach.
- Zlatnite Mostove (The Golden Bridges) — a huge “stone river” of rounded boulders tumbling down the slope. Geology turned into a playground: great for photos, exploring weird rock formations and easy strolling on marked paths. In autumn the contrast with the surrounding pine forest is gorgeous.

- Bistrishko Branishte Nature Reserve — an old-growth patch of beech and fir that feels properly wild for being so close to Sofia. It’s a biodiversity hotspot with quiet trails, rare alpine plants and a real sense of solitude — stick to the paths because it’s a protected reserve.
- Boyana Waterfall — a compact, pretty cascade reachable by a short hike from Boyana village. Best after spring melt or heavy rain, and dramatic when partially frozen in winter. Great for a quick nature stop if you’re short on time but want the feel of a mountain walk.
- Aleko & the Cable Car Hub — the activity center of Vitosha: cable car from Simeonovo, ski runs in winter and a tangle of marked hiking trails in summer. Perfect place to start a day trek (or bail to a mountain hut for soup and local beer).
- Kopitoto Viewpoint — a lower-elevation lookout with a distinctive radio tower and panoramic views over northern Sofia. Friendly walk through pine forest, popular for sunset lovers and day-trippers who want big-city views without a long climb.
- Spring & Summer Wildflower Meadows — the south-facing slopes burst with seasonal blooms and butterflies: low alpine flowers, colorful carpets and scent-filled meadows that make even short walks feel like a nature documentary. Best between late May and July.
