- Stung Sen riverfront — The slow river that runs through town is the heartbeat of Kampong Thom: great for a sunset stroll, watching fishermen, hopping on a short long-tail ride, or just seeing daily life unfold along the banks.
- Kampong Thom Central Market (Phsar Thmei/Phsar Leu) — A lively, chaotic market where you’ll find fresh produce, grilled fish, noodle stalls, cheap clothes and an instant lesson in local food culture and bargaining etiquette.
- Kampong Thom Provincial Museum — A small but useful collection of Angkorian artifacts, pottery and local history that gives context to the ruins scattered around the province; handy if you want background before heading out to nearby temple sites.
- Main town pagoda (the town’s principal wat) — The active Buddhist monastery in the centre of town

- Main town pagoda (the town’s principal wat) — The active Buddhist monastery in the centre of town is where you’ll see monastic life up close, traditional murals, morning alms and community ceremonies — quietly fascinating and very visitable.
- Riverside food stalls & night market — When the sun drops, vendors set up along the river with grilled fish, lok lak, soups and simple desserts. It’s the best, cheapest way to sample local Khmer street food and mingle with families and workers unwinding.
- Old riverside / colonial quarter — Walk the streets near the river and you’ll spot faded French-era buildings and timber houses that tell the town’s recent history — not a polished attraction, but great for photography and small discoveries.
- Local craft and weaving workshops — Small family workshops around town turn out silk, mats and palm-sugar products; many will show you a demo if you ask, and you can buy directly from makers for a fair price.
- Stung Saen boat landing & fish market — The working boat landing is where trade still happens: watch boats beached, nets unloaded and traders haggle — an honest, sensory slice of provincial river life.
- Morning alms and temple routine — Join (quietly and respectfully) the early-morning alms rounds at a neighbourhood wat to see devotees, monks and the rhythm of local religious life — an immediate cultural experience.
- Neighbourhood food lanes and small cafés — Kampong Thom’s best memories are often meals: find the corner stall selling coconut rice, the lady with the best pork noodle soup, or a riverside café and you’ll get a truer feel for the town than any monument.
