The museum is not in Escambray’s mountains where the fighting happened, and it is not a tank-and-trench war museum either. It sits in Cuba’s Sancti Spíritus province, in the town of Trinidad, steps from Plaza Mayor. Inside the former San Francisco convent, you get a compact, one-theme museum about the 1960s campaign against anti-government rebels. My mistake was arriving with only twenty minutes, then realizing the captions deserve slow reading. Worth it for the political context and bluntly not for art or interactive displays. The best detail is the rooftop tower view over Trinidad’s red tile roofs.

The old center around Plaza Mayor and the cobbled streets below it put you within a short walk of the bars, music venues and the taxi stands where shared cars leave for the surrounding countryside. Casas here are family-run, usually safe, and the hosts often organize breakfast and onward transport.
