Boti Falls is not a single waterfall, and it is not a quick roadside stop near Accra. It is a twin cascade, Male (“husband”) and Female (“wife”), tucked in the forested hills of Ghana’s Eastern Region near Koforidua, about 2.5 to 4 hours from the capital depending on traffic. The popular image is an empty jungle pool. The reality is weekend school groups, drummers, vendors and a guide fee at the gate. Water volume drops sharply in the dry months, too. Still, I stood at the base in July with cool spray sticking to my arms, red mud drying on my shins, and the roar drowning out the cicadas. The 10-minute walk down is easy, the cost is low, and the Umbrella Rock and village culture make the trip worthwhile.

  • Main Rainy Season (April to July): Peak flow, with both falls merging into a thundering sheet. Temperatures run about 22 to 31°C (72 to 88°F). Trails get muddy and slippery, and afternoon downpours are common.
  • Minor Rains (September to November): Strong flow with fewer visitors. Expect 22 to 30°C (72 to 86°F) and cloudy skies.
  • Harmattan (December to February): Dry, dusty haze cuts photo clarity and the falls can shrink to thin streams. Mornings are cooler, around 18 to 24°C (64 to 75°F), with afternoons reaching 33°C (91°F). Crowds peak around Christmas and Easter weekends.
  • Dry Heat (February to March): Hot at 24 to 34°C (75 to 93°F), with the lowest water levels. Daylight runs about 6am to 6pm all year, as the site sits near the equator.
Go on a weekday morning in June or October for big water and quiet paths.
