Everyone assumes Eastern Beach is some wild, wave-battered Atlantic surf spot; it’s not. It’s Gibraltar’s long, sandy strip on the east side of the Rock, running just north of Catalan Bay and right up against the airport runway, which is exactly as noisy and weird as it sounds. For backpackers, it’s a solid “Essential-if-you’re-already-in-Gib” stop, not a fly-across-Europe destination. The pros: it’s the biggest sandy beach in Gibraltar, easy to reach by bus or on foot, usually clean enough, with calm, swimmable water and a laid-back, local-family vibe.
