Everyone shows up to Elia Beach expecting some secret bohemian cove; it’s not. It’s the long, organized, slightly bougie stretch on the south coast of Mykonos, Greece, where sunbeds breed like rabbits. For backpackers, it’s a trade-off: the water is clean and calm, great for lazy swims, but the vibe leans polished rather than scrappy. Crowds are heavy in high season, though it’s less chaotic than Super Paradise and less generic than Platis Gialos. Access by bus is easy, and you can still sniff out a few semi-affordable rooms and gyros if you walk back from the front row. Scenery is solid, snorkeling meh, nightlife nearby expensive. Essential if you’re already on Mykonos; overrated as a mission in itself.

Locals usually swim near the beach’s designated areas, marked by flags. Stick to those spots, especially during peak hours when the sun is blazing. Speaking of the sun, don’t underestimate its power. Slather on that sunscreen, even if it feels like a chore.

As for marine life, you might spot a curious ray or two, but sharks are more of a myth here. Just be mindful of your belongings; petty theft can happen, especially when the beach gets crowded. Enjoy the sun, the sea, and the laid-back vibe!
