- Lingaraj Temple — The city’s most iconic 11th-century Shiva temple; the vast sandstone complex, daily rituals and the atmosphere around the outer courtyards give you a real sense of how Bhubaneswar grew as a temple city. Non-Hindus can’t enter the inner sanctum, but the architecture and the bustle at the ghats are worth the visit.
- Udayagiri & Khandagiri Caves — Twin hill caves with ancient Jain carvings and reliefs carved into natural rock. Climbing the caves gives you panoramic views over the city and a direct, tangible link to early religious life in Odisha.
- Mukteshwar Temple — A compact, jewel-box Shaiva temple famous for its exquisite torana (arched gateway) and delicate carvings; many locals call it the fine-art example of Kalinga style. Great for photographers and anyone who loves

- Mukteshwar Temple — A compact, jewel-box Shaiva temple famous for its exquisite torana (arched gateway) and delicate carvings; many locals call it the fine-art example of Kalinga style. Great for photographers and anyone who loves carved stone details up close.
- Rajarani Temple — Built out of distinctive red-sandstone, this elegant 11th-century temple sits in a small garden and feels more like a sculpture set than a worship space. It’s calming, photogenic, and a nice counterpoint to the larger temple complexes.
- Parasurameswara Temple — One of the oldest surviving temples in Bhubaneswar, with some of the earliest temple sculpture in Odisha. The carvings here are intimate and early-period — a must if you care about the evolution of temple art.
- Ananta Vasudeva Temple — A rare Vaishnavite temple in a predominantly Shaiva city; it houses life-sized idols of Krishna, Balarama and Subhadra. Visiting gives a different religious flavor of old Bhubaneswar and you can often watch lively temple festivals here.
- Bindusagar Lake — The large holy tank beside Lingaraj; the ghats are where morning rituals, boatless reflections and evening lights make for intimate local scenes. Walk the rim at sunrise or sunset to watch temple life unfold.
- Odisha State Museum — Well-curated collection of archaeology, medieval sculpture, folk and tribal artifacts and manuscripts. If you want context for the temples and tribal cultures you’ll see around Odisha, spend an hour here.
- Nandankanan Zoological Park & Botanical Garden — More than a zoo: it’s a large conservation park with white tigers, a botanical section, and a safari area. It’s an especially good visit if you have a day to spare and want a break from stone and temples.
- Ekamra Haat & Ekamra Kanan — The crafts market (Ekamra Haat) is where you can buy Odisha handloom, applique and pattachitra from local artisans; Ekamra Kanan is the nearby city botanical park with rose and Japanese gardens. Together they’re a pleasant mix of shopping, food stalls and green space for a relaxed afternoon.
