- Lake Towada — a vast caldera lake with glassy, deep-blue water framed by steep forested shores; boat cruises and lakeside trails are great for sunrise photos and autumn color.
- Oirase Gorge — a mossy stream corridor spilling over dozens of waterfalls and cascades, linked by wooden boardwalks and easy-to-moderate hiking; constant water, shade, and photo ops make this my personal favorite.
- Hakkōda Mountains — rugged volcanic peaks with alpine meadows in summer and eerie rime-ice “snow monsters” in winter; the Hakkōda Ropeway gets you up fast for high-trail access and panoramic views.
- Hachimantai Plateau — a wide volcanic plateau of marshes and highland meadows, filled with alpine flowers and boardwalks; the Aspite Line scenic road cuts through for spectacular vistas and easy stops.
- Juniko

- Juniko (Twelve Lakes) — a cluster of small, crystal-clear ponds with striking blue-green hues caused by groundwater and mineral reflections; short trails and viewpoints make this a peaceful half-day detour.
- Goshōgake Onsen and geothermal fields — steamy fumaroles, bubbling mud pools and sulfur vents on a compact, walkable site; surreal landscapes plus the chance to warm up in a rustic onsen afterward.
- Mount Iwate — the classic stratovolcano silhouette of the region, offering tougher hikes and ridge routes; climb it for sweeping park panoramas and a proper alpine challenge.
