- Ancient oak woodland (Quercus calliprinos) — Thick stands of evergreen oak give Dibeen its character: dense canopy, twisted trunks and a cool, green hush even in summer. It’s the backbone of the reserve’s biodiversity and my personal favorite for sitting on a rock with a thermos and a good view.
- Panoramic viewpoints over the Jordan Valley — Several short climbs open onto sweeping views that fall away to the Jordan Valley and, on clear days, far toward the Dead Sea. Great for sunrise or late-afternoon light when the hills go golden.

- Birdwatching and migration stopover — The mix of oak and pine attracts resident songbirds and raptors passing on the flyway between Europe and Africa. Binoculars will likely pick out woodpeckers, warblers and the occasional hawk.
- Mammal sightings and tracks — You won’t see big herds, but look for fox and jackal signs, and at dawn/dusk you may spot small mammals or fresh tracks. It’s more about quiet encounters than guaranteed wildlife shows.
- Marked hiking trails and easy loops — Several marked trails suit different energy levels: short picnic loops, half-day hikes through mixed forest, and hillier routes if you want more sweat and fewer people. Trails are straightforward but pack water and decent shoes—the rocky bits can be sneaky.
- Stone terraces and rural scenery — Around the reserve you’ll see traditional stone terraces, olive groves and small villages tucked into the hills. The human landscape adds texture—good spots for photos and a chance to encounter local life.
