- Wetland lakes and oxbow pools — Scattered shallow lakes left behind by the river are magnets for birds and amphibians. These quiet, reed-fringed pools are prime places to spot large flocks of waterfowl and get scenic sunrise shots with mist over glassy water.
- Reedbeds and birdwatching stands — Extensive reed belts host nesting herons, egrets and migratory ducks. Come with binoculars or a cheap hide; you can watch birds feed, preen and move through the reeds without disturbing them.

- Riverside trails and small-boat outings — The best way to experience the reserve is by mixing short hikes with river walks or hiring a local boat for a slow trip through side channels. Trails are generally flat and accessible; the boat rides give you different wildlife angles and get you close to nesting birds on inaccessible islets.
