Most online blurbs sell Rugova Canyon as a quick roadside viewpoint, but the surprise is how much of it you actually experience from the asphalt unless you deliberately hunt for the side trails and high routes. Rugova Canyon sits just west of Peja in western Kosovo, forming the dramatic gateway toward the Montenegrin border. For backpackers, it’s a solid base if you like steep, short hikes to viewpoints, cold rivers, and cheap grill restaurants, but it’s not a classic long-distance hiking valley like the nearby Bjeshkët e Nemuna National Park. The scenery is sharp limestone, tunnels, and overhanging cliffs; wildlife is mostly birds and the occasional snake, not big charismatic stuff.
