You have to choose, before you even lace your boots: is Afqa Waterfall a quick roadside photo stop, or are you actually hiking the trail that drops you into its canyon and climbs you back out. That choice decides whether Afqa is a 15‑minute detour or a half‑day leg burner. The trail sits above the village of Afqa in the Byblos District of Mount Lebanon, at the head of the Nahr Ibrahim valley. It’s short to moderate in length but steeper and rougher than it looks from the road, with loose rock, spring mud, and summer heat that bounces off the cliffs. The payoff is big water, echoing cliffs, and myth-soaked scenery, but access by public transport is awkward compared with Baatara Gorge or Chouwen, and the route feels less polished, less marked, and more raw than those better-known Lebanese hikes.
