Most online blurbs sell Byblos Beach as some pristine Mediterranean postcard; the surprise is that a lot of it feels more like a pay-to-enter beach club strip than a wild, roll-out-your-sleeping-bag shoreline. It sits just north of Beirut on Lebanon’s coast, wrapped around the old town of Byblos (Jbeil), so you’re trading remoteness for easy access. For backpackers, it’s a mixed reward: the sea is usually calm and swimmable, sunsets are legitimately great, and the backdrop of ruins plus fishing harbor gives it more character than the generic resort sands further north. But sections can be crowded, a bit littered outside the managed clubs, and free public access is patchy. Surf is basically a no, snorkeling is “only if you’re bored,” and budget beds and cheap manoushe or shawarma are thankfully close in town.
