- Black Lemurs (Eulemur macaco) — The park’s headline act: semi-tame family groups of black lemurs that hop through the canopy close to the trails. Excellent for photos and seeing lemur social behavior up close. (Personal favorite — they’re charismatic and surprisingly bold.)
- Lowland Rainforest Trails — Short, lush paths under a dense canopy where endemic palms, orchids and strangler figs dominate. Easy to moderate hikes; the plant diversity and fragrant understory make even a brief walk feel immersive.
- Mangroves and Lagoon Habitat — A boat approach through mangrove channels opens into tidal lagoons and black-sand shores. It’s a different ecosystem from the interior forest, full of fiddler crabs, shorebirds and eerie root forests that photograph beautifully.

- Nocturnal Walks — When the sun sets the park changes tempo: mouse lemurs, chameleons, tree frogs and other night specialists come out. Guided night walks are the best way to catch species you won’t see by day.
- Chameleons and Reptiles — Several colorful chameleon species (including the famous panther chameleon in nearby habitats), leaf-tailed geckos and small snakes hide in the foliage. Great for slow, patient searches with a guide.
- Birdwatching — A mix of forest and coastal birds — vangas, kingfishers, herons and other Madagascar endemics — show up in different zones of the park. Early mornings are prime for song and activity.
- Scenic Boat Approaches & Local Village Edge — The journey into Lokobe is part of the attraction: pirogue or motorboat rides, mangrove tunnels and glimpses of village life on Nosy Be’s shore give context to the reserve and make the whole visit feel like an island adventure.
