- Bahías de Huatulco (the Nine Bays) — The defining landscape: a chain of sheltered bays with sandy beaches, rocky headlands and turquoise water. Boat trips let you hop between very different beaches in one afternoon, from quiet coves to more active bays with little restaurants.
- La Entrega — Famous snorkel bay with easy shore access and clear water. Coral formations are shallow and fish are abundant, so even brief snorkeling gives a great window into the park’s marine life (my personal favorite for a relaxed half-day in the water).
- Coral reefs and diving spots — The park protects healthy reef patches that house angelfish, parrotfish, morays and seasonal visitors like manta rays. If you dive or snorkel, you’ll see more variety than the beaches suggest, and local operators run guided trips

- Mangrove estuaries and birdwatching — The sheltered river mouths and mangroves are bird magnets: herons, egrets, frigatebirds and kingfishers are common. Small boat tours through the channels are low-effort and great for photography and quiet wildlife watching.
- Sea turtle nesting beaches and conservation projects — Parts of the coastline are important nesting habitat for turtles. Local conservation groups often run night releases and beach patrols you can learn about or support, which is a memorable, hands-on way to connect with the park.
- Dry tropical forest hikes and viewpoints — The upland trails cut through rugged dry forest and scrub, offering panoramic views of the bays and good chances to spot local birds, lizards and seasonal wildflowers. Trails vary from short walks to longer treks for a full morning of exploration.
- Whale and dolphin watching (seasonal) — Offshore waters host dolphins year-round and humpback whales pass through in the winter months. A morning boat trip in season can be one of the best wildlife experiences—bring binoculars and a windproof layer.
