- The Lagoon (Merja Zerga) — A shallow, brackish coastal lagoon that changes mood with the tide: glassy and reflective at calm moments, busy and braided with channels at low tide. It’s the park’s heart — wide skies, long waterlines, and lots of space to breathe and watch nature do its thing.
- Flamingo and Waterfowl Spectacle — One of the best places in Morocco to see large flocks of greater flamingos and countless ducks, geese and waders during migration and winter. The color and movement are addictive; watching them feed and wheel at dawn is my personal favorite — pure, slow-motion nature theater.
- Mudflats and Tidal Channels — These exposed flats at low tide are vital feeding grounds for shorebirds and create beautiful, sculpted patterns in the mud. Great for close-up birding and dramatic

- Reedbeds and Marsh Trails — Narrow paths and reed-fringed pools hide warblers, kingfishers and marsh specialists. It’s quieter here; the soundscape is reeds, insects and bird calls. Perfect for slow hiking and listening rather than rushed sightseeing.
- Dunes and Atlantic Beaches — The coastal dunes and long sandy beaches bordering the lagoon give you contrast: flat water versus wind-swept sand. Short dune hikes give wide views of the lagoon and ocean, and are a good escape if you want a little cardio and scenery.
- Local Fishing Villages and Boat Rides — Small fishing hamlets around the lagoon offer simple seafood, markets and the chance to take a local pirogue out into the water. Boats let you approach bird concentrations without disturbing them and provide different angles for photography.
- Observation Hides & Sunset Vantage Points — Scattered hides and informal lookout spots are set up for discreet birdwatching and photography. Sunset here is special — the colors on the lagoon and on the birds are worth timing your day around.
