- Coastal cliff viewpoints over the East Sea — Sheer drops that open onto the ocean and a scatter of little islets make this a coastal hike, not a forest walk. The light at dawn or dusk is something else: low sun hitting the water and the rocks creates layers of colour you don’t see on inland trails.
- Jagged granite spires and narrow ridgelines — Chilbo’s skyline is built of wind-sculpted rock towers and knife-edge ridges, so sections feel more alpine than your average day-hike. Short scrambles and exposed traverses give you big, dramatic photo angles without needing technical gear.
- Traditional pavilions and small hermitages — Scattered wooden pavilions and modest shrine spots break the trail and remind you this is a place with human history, not just scenery. They make nice stops to rest,

- Mixed forest corridors and seasonal blooms — The lower slopes are a mix of pines and broadleaf trees, with bright azaleas in spring and good fall colour later in the year. Expect songbirds, the occasional seabird following the coast, and a peaceful understory that contrasts the exposed summits.
- Sunrise from the main summit — Climbing before first light pays off: the summit gives a panorama of cliffs, sea and distant peaks all lit gradually, and usually you’ll have it to yourself. Personal favorite — that quiet hour when the whole mountain seems to wake up is hard to beat.
