- Călimani Peak (Vârful Călimani) — The massif’s main summit gives sweeping panoramas over neighboring ranges and high plateaus. It’s a classic ridge hike: open meadows, wind, and great sunrise/sunset photo opportunities if you don’t mind a bit of uphill.
- Glacial cirques, small alpine lakes and peat bogs — Scattered tarns and fragile bogland add an alpine vibe. They’re quiet, often mirror-still in the morning, and a lovely place for a short detour and a rest away from the main track.

- Traditional shepherding landscape and mountain stâni — In summer you’ll find seasonal huts, grazing sheep and local cheese being made. It’s a nice cultural contrast to the wild scenery and a good place to taste locally made food.
- Marked hiking routes and backcountry possibilities — A network of trails runs across ridges and plateaus, from easy day-walks to multi-day treks and winter backcountry routes. Navigation can be basic in places—bring a map, GPS, and layers—and enjoy the solitude.
