- Pietrosul Rodnei — The park’s dominant summit and the obvious must-do: a bare, rocky peak with sweeping 360° views across the Eastern Carpathians. It’s where you feel above the treeline, find alpine plants in crevices, and watch clouds pile into the valleys below.
- Ineu Massif and ridge walks — Long, exposed ridgelines that reward hikers with dramatic skyline hiking and easy route-finding along the crest. Great for multi-hour treks or overnight ridge camps if you like a high, quiet traverse.

- Old-growth spruce and beech forests — Dense, ancient forest zones lower down where you can actually feel wildness: mossy trunks, quiet glades, and a real chance to hear capercaillie or see tracks of brown bear and wolf (from a respectful distance).
- Large mammal and birdlife watching — The park is one of the better spots in Romania for seeing brown bears, wolves, lynx, chamois and raptors like golden eagles. Sightings are never guaranteed—bring patience and a good pair of binoculars.
- Marked trails and mountain huts — A compact network of well-marked trails linking saddles, peaks and small refuges makes multi-day loops doable on a budget. Trails are straightforward in summer; check local refuge openings and weather before committing to high routes.
