I expected a flower show to smell like a garden, but the Darling Wildflower Show hall smells of damp canvas and fresh coffee, and the wildflowers are stacked in hundreds of labeled jars. It runs in the Swartland of South Africa's Western Cape, about an hour's drive north of Cape Town. It is a small-town agricultural hall show with local stalls, wine and farm tours. Skip it for nightlife. Go for the flowers. It suits botanists, photographers and road-trippers with a car, but not anyone who wants a festival crowd.
