- Estany Llong — A long, narrow alpine lake tucked in a dramatic bowl of cliffs and meadows. It’s a beautiful overnight stop on multi-day routes and especially pretty in late afternoon light when the cliffs warm up and the lake mirrors them.
- Estany de Ratera and Amitges cirque — A cluster of turquoise lakes and glacial bowls reachable via a stiff day-hike. Expect sharp panoramas, lots of alpine wildflowers in summer, and the Amitges refuge if you want to break the hike into two chunks.
- Vall de Sant Nicolau (waterfalls and solitude) — A steeper, more sheltered valley with dramatic waterfalls, mossy walls and fewer people than the main lakes. Great for wildflower spotting in June-July and for anyone craving quiet trail time.
- Wildlife and alpine flora — Marmots, chamois, and a decent chance of spotting alpine birds (including vultures) plus carpets of tiny high-altitude flowers. Wildlife encounters are common if you move slowly and keep quiet; binoculars help, and please don’t feed anything.
