- Knidos (Datça tip) — An ancient city perched on the very point where the Aegean and Mediterranean almost shake hands. The ruins are spread across two headlands with a tiny harbor, a dramatic amphitheatre and cliff-top views that make any steep climb feel worth it; the sunset here is the kind of thing you’ll keep bringing up to strangers. (Personal favorite — the light and the silence after day-trippers leave is unbeatable.)
- Wild coves of the Datça peninsula — Long, rocky ridgelines drop into crystal-clear turquoise bays you can dive into straight from the path. These are proper wilderness swims: few facilities, lots of fragrant maquis and almond groves, and brilliant snorkelling off pebbly beaches — exactly the kind of coastline that separates the Carian Trail from busier seaside routes.

- Bozburun & Selimiye harbours — Small, working maritime towns where wooden gulets are still built and repaired. The trail threads through olive terraces into sleepy harbors rimmed with fish restaurants and boatyards — great for an afternoon tea, watching craftsmen at work, or grabbing a cheap shared boat to a quieter bay.
- Akyaka and the Gökova viewpoint — A different vibe: a reed-lined azmak (stream), kite-surfers on the wide bay, and a ridge above the plain that gives broad panoramas of the Gulf. It’s where pine-scented high-country hiking meets easy seaside culture — good for a rest day, resupply or a quick coffee with sea views.
- Coastal wildlife & nesting beaches — The trail runs close to sand spits and deltas where you’ll see migratory birds, monk seals sometimes, and — in the right season — Caretta caretta sea turtle tracks on quiet beaches. It’s not just scenery; those wildlife encounters (and the effort to keep to marked paths and quiet at night) are a reminder you’re in a living ecosystem, not a postcard.
