You know what nobody tells you about Aphrodisias? You can actually breathe there. You get world-class ruins with Ephesus-level quality, but without being herded like a cruise-ship extra. Aphrodisias sits in southwestern Türkiye, inland in Aydın Province, a few hours from Pamukkale and far enough off the main tourist conveyor belt that most people skip it. Their loss. The stadium alone is jaw-dropping, the kind of place where you sit on the stone seats and suddenly Roman history stops feeling like homework. It’s cheap by “big-name site” standards, the crowds are light, and you can take wide, clean photos without a forest of selfie sticks. The trade-off: it’s a bit of a mission to reach by public transport, and there’s not much backpacker nightlife around, but the calm, open-air-museum vibe more than pays you back.
