- Ancient conifer forests (Sarıkamış pines and firs) — Dense, old-growth spruce and fir that trap and dry out snow, creating that famous light, powdery winter cover. Walking beneath those trees feels primeval: the smell, the quiet, and the photo ops are excellent. (Personal favorite — nothing beats a crisp morning hike here.)
- Allahuekber Mountain ridge — Long, sweeping ridgelines with broad views over Kars province and the Anatolian plateau; great for day hikes and ridge-walking. The terrain is dramatic without being technically extreme, so you get big views without needing technical gear.
- Sarıkamış ski area and backcountry snowfields — Low-key ski runs and excellent backcountry zones where the tree-preserved powder makes for world-class off-piste turns and safe snowshoeing. Fewer crowds

- Sarıkamış ski area and backcountry snowfields — Low-key ski runs and excellent backcountry zones where the tree-preserved powder makes for world-class off-piste turns and safe snowshoeing. Fewer crowds than Turkey’s western resorts, so you’ll often have extensive slopes to yourself.
- Alpine meadows and seasonal wildflower slopes — In late spring and summer the higher plateaus turn into colorful meadows threaded with meltwater streams — perfect for easy hikes, picnics, and photographing endemic flowers. The contrast between the green meadows and surrounding grey peaks is striking.
- Sarıkamış Martyrs’ Memorial and historic routes — A sobering, powerful site tied to the First World War; the memorial sits in the landscape and many trails follow old military paths. It’s a distinctive mix of natural beauty and history that adds depth to a visit.
- Wildlife and birds of prey — Look for raptors circling thermals, and common mammals like foxes and hares; larger species such as wolves or bears exist in the region but are elusive. Early mornings and dusk bring the best chance to see animals without disturbing them.
- Stargazing and remote panoramas — Low light pollution and high altitude give superb night skies; on clear nights the Milky Way is vivid. Sunrises and sunsets from exposed viewpoints are simple but memorable — cold, crisp, and photogenic.
