Cruzan Rum Distillery is where most visitors to St. Croix go to see how Virgin Islands rum is made, and the tour ends with tastings of several rums and a few liqueurs. What gets overlooked is that the distillery is a working industrial site on the same ground as old sugar-estate buildings, so the smell of fermenting molasses and the hum of the stills belong to the visit. It sits on the south shore of St. Croix in the United States Virgin Islands, in the Estate Diamond area between Frederiksted and Christiansted, about 10 minutes from Frederiksted and 25 minutes from Christiansted.
