It sits in Hunan Province, near Zhangjiajie city in south-central China. For backpackers, the sandstone pillars, mist, and deep ravines really are worth the hype, and there are solid day-hike options plus a few longer link-ups if you’re willing to navigate the bus system. Wildlife is more about monkeys and birds than big mammals. Entrance fees are high by China standards, but the multi-day ticket softens the blow.
