Backpacking in Envision
🏆 Top pickfestival ranked #1
By Johan Kruseman 🇳🇱 | Updated June 1, 2026

People show up to Envision expecting a cheap jungle rave on the beach and get blindsided by how intense, expensive, and all-consuming it actually is. Envision happens near Uvita, on Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast, in the humid green belt between the highway and the ocean. It’s a week-long eco-spiritual circus: bass-heavy electronic at night, live bands and world music mixed in, yoga and breathwork at sunrise, workshops on everything from permaculture to ecstatic dance. The crowd skews international, festival-seasoned, and very wellness-forward—think more cacao ceremony than beer bong. The vibe is immersive and idealistic, but also physically demanding: heat, dust, mud, long walks, and not much separation between “party” and “home.” I like it for the community energy and the jungle-meets-ocean setting, but it’s not a casual backpacker stop; you commit hard in money, effort, and stamina, or you sit this one out.

💡 HighlightsEssential experiences to have while celebrating the Envision

  • Jungle-meets-beach setting — The festival literally spills between rainforest and surf, so you can go from dancing under towering trees to watching the sunrise over the Pacific in twenty minutes; it creates a relaxed, earthy vibe you won’t get at stadium shows.
  • Multiple stages & intimate performances — Expect anything from deep, downtempo sets in hammock chill zones to high-energy electronic and world-music stages; the production is creative but still small enough that artists feel close and spontaneous, not distant.
  • Yoga, cacao ceremonies & healing village — A full menu of sunrise yoga, sound baths, plant-medicine-inspired circles and cacao ceremonies keeps the weekend anchored in wellness and reflection; this is my personal favorite because mornings there feel like hitting reset before

  • Immersive art and interactive installations — Large-scale sculptures, projection mapping and participatory art pop up all over camp; wandering between installations is its own kind of exploration and you’ll often stumble into a performance or creative workshop you didn’t even know you needed.
  • Community, sustainability & local culture — The festival emphasizes low-impact practices, local vendors and permaculture touches, so you get a communal, eco-minded atmosphere that connects you to Costa Rican food, crafts and people rather than just being a consumer experience.

  • Topic: Seasonal Activities – The dry season opens up nearby hikes, waterfalls, and beaches without the usual rainy-season restrictions. Plan your festival days around early morning treks or late afternoon swims to balance adventure and recovery.

  • Topic: Price Fluctuations – Prices for flights and lodging spike during Envision. Lock in your travel early to dodge the inflation wave. Budget wisely—splurging on a solid campsite or local eats pays off in comfort and authenticity.

Pro-tip: Arrive a day early to acclimate and snag the best local spots before the festival frenzy hits—your future self will thank you.

  • Food & Drinks: Daily food costs can vary widely. Street food is delicious and cheap, around $5 to $10 per meal. If you prefer dining at restaurants, budget $15 to $30 per meal. Drinks at the festival can be pricey, so set aside $5 to $10 for a beer or cocktail.
  • Miscellaneous Expenses: Factor in around $50 to $100 for souvenirs, activities, or unexpected costs. This could include workshops, wellness sessions, or even a spontaneous adventure. Always good to have a cushion for those moments that make the trip memorable.

Stay sharp and plan ahead. This way, you can dive into the festival without worrying about your wallet.
