- Reedbeds and birdlife — the mosaic of reeds and shallow pools is the park’s headline act: a major stopover for migratory waterbirds and home to raptors like the white-tailed eagle, black stork, herons and countless smaller species. Bring binoculars; dawn here is noisy and brilliant.
- Boat safaris on the canal labyrinth — guided boats snake through narrow channels and backwaters, letting you float within arm’s reach of nesting birds, reed fringes and mirror-calm oxbows. Best time is early morning or late afternoon for light and wildlife activity.

- Floodplain forests (alders and willows) — these seasonally flooded woods have a different feel than typical Croatian pine forests: waterlogged roots, mossy trunks and a slow, primeval quiet. Short trails run through them and the biodiversity is surprisingly rich.
- Oxbow lakes and old Danube meanders — the park preserves cut-off river bends where water lilies, frogs and wading birds thrive. They make for great photos and peaceful stops — the reflections at sunset are worth the walk.
- Observation towers and hides — a handful of elevated platforms and blinds give you panoramic views over reed seas and let you watch without disturbing wildlife. They’re the easiest way to spot heronries and wintering flocks.
- Biking and walking trails — a compact network of easy trails and bike routes lets you explore different habitats in a day. Trails are flat and straightforward; pack water, bug spray and a map from the visitor centre and you can DIY a rewarding loop.
- Wetland mammals and fishlife — keep an eye on the shoreline for otter slides, beaver activity and the fish that draw them in. You won’t always see mammals, but tracks, dams and splashes tell the story of a living, working wetland.
