- Veliki Slap (Big Waterfall) — The park’s signature thunder: the tallest waterfall in Plitvice, a dramatic drop into the lower lakes and one of the best photo spots. You feel the spray and the power up close, which never gets old.
- Kozjak Lake and the electric boat ride — A dark, deep lake that links the upper and lower sections; the short electric boat trip through the narrow inlet is relaxing and gives you a different, glassy perspective of the park’s cliffs and reflections.
- Upper Lakes’ terraced cascades — A string of smaller lakes and falls held together by tufa (travertine) barriers that create vivid turquoise pools and lace-like waterfalls. The wooden boardwalks thread right over the water, so you’re practically walking on the lake.

- Lower Lakes and the maze of small waterfalls — More intimate, multi-level cascades and emerald pools that are easier to access; great if you want to linger at water level and watch how the light plays on the rocks and algae.
- Wooden footbridges and hiking trails (routes from short circuits to full loops) — The park’s character is the interlaced paths and bridges. Pick a short route for a relaxed wander or a full loop (several hours) to see both upper and lower lakes—expect stairs, boardwalks, and stunning variety.
- Panoramic viewpoints — A few high lookouts give that classic postcard sweep over the lakes and steps of water. Aim for early morning or late afternoon light to avoid the crowds and get the best colors.
- Wildlife pockets and unique vegetation — Not just pretty water: keep an eye out for deer, otters, kingfishers and, if you’re lucky and quiet, signs of brown bears or wolves. The mossy, hanging vegetation on the travertine barriers is also oddly photogenic and part of what makes the park’s ecosystem special.
