- Migratory bird spectacle — Lake Burullus is a major stopover on the Mediterranean flyway, so expect big numbers of ducks, waders and the occasional flamingo during migration and winter. If you like binoculars and chaos, this is a prime spot.
- Reedbeds and marsh mosaic — The lake is ringed by dense reedbeds and freshwater marshes that look bland from a distance but hide a ton of wildlife: secretive warblers, herons and nesting waterfowl. Walk the edges slowly — you’ll see more than you expect.
- Mudflats and salt pans — At low tide the exposed mudflats become a feeding frenzy for shorebirds: sandpipers, plovers and godwits probe for invertebrates, making excellent close-range birdwatching opportunities.
- Coastal shoreline and dunes — Where the lagoon meets the Mediterranean you get quiet sandy

- Coastal shoreline and dunes — Where the lagoon meets the Mediterranean you get quiet sandy spits and low dunes — a surprisingly scenic contrast to the marshes. Good for short walks, shell-collecting and a breezy sunset without crowds.
- Boat rides and in-lake exploration — Small local boats take you into channels and reed fringes for much better wildlife viewing than from the shore. Boats let you sneak up on flocks and reach isolated breeding spots.
- Fish nursery and aquatic life — The shallow, brackish waters are an important nursery for commercially and ecologically important fish and crustaceans, so the lake hums with life beneath the surface as well as above it.
- Traditional fishing villages — Small lakeside communities still use traditional nets and small boats; visiting them gives you a look at everyday life, local markets and a chance to taste very fresh fish prepared simply and well.
