It sits in Georgia’s far southeast, in Kakheti, closer to Azerbaijan than to the wine bars of Telavi. The town itself is plain and spread out, more practical than pretty, with wide streets, a few low-key cafés, and a market where you can actually smell the herbs people cook with. As a base, it works: you come here to arrange 4x4s and guides for Vashlovani, to stock up on food, and to sleep cheap in family guesthouses. Public minibuses from Tbilisi and Telavi make it reachable, but once you’re in town you’ll mostly walk or grab the occasional taxi.
