- The Acropolis Museum connection — Many original sculptures and casts are displayed in climate-controlled rooms a short walk away. Visiting the museum right after the hill lets you match fragments to their original places and understand techniques and colors that time erased.
- The nearby Erechtheion and Porch of the Caryatids — A different kind of genius: asymmetrical plan, sacred wells and the Porch with six elegant Caryatid figures (replicas on site; originals in the museum). It’s a great contrast to the Parthenon’s severe Doric lines.
- Restoration work and archaeology up close — The ongoing conservation is visible: scaffolding, new marble inserts and craftsmen at work. It’s honest archaeology — you’ll see how restorers match marble, read tool marks, and make decisions about preserving a living monument.
