Everyone raves about Gurez Valley for “the views of Habba Khatoon peak,” but honestly, that’s just the poster shot. What matters more for you is how remote it feels, how slow time moves, and how much effort it actually takes to get there. Gurez sits in north Kashmir, near the Line of Control, and it’s one of those places where you still feel like a guest, not a walking wallet. It’s cheaper than Gulmarg or Pahalgam, but transport is a grind: long, bumpy rides, limited shared jeeps, and roads that close with landslides or snow. Dawar is the main base, with tiny villages scattered along the Kishanganga River, wooden houses, army checkpoints, and that “end of the road” quiet you either fall in love with or find claustrophobic.
