Mogren Beach looks like an Instagram prop, but the surprising backpacker truth is this: the sand is actually decent for Montenegro’s mostly pebbly coast, so you can lie down without feeling like you’re on a bed of Lego. It sits just west of Budva’s Old Town, tucked below cliffs and reached by a short coastal path that feels more scenic than it has any right to be. As a backpacker stop, it’s a trade-off: the water is usually clear and calm for swimming, the cliffs give it drama, and you can snorkel a bit around the rocks, but crowds and cigarette butts creep in fast in high season. No real surf, just gentle bobbing. The vibe is half beach-bum, half package-tour chaos, with overpriced loungers but cheap-ish bakeries and hostels back in Budva. Compared with Slovenska Plaža or Jaz, Mogren is prettier than the first, more convenient than the second, and more crowded than both.
