The thing nobody tells you about Sveti Stefan beach until you’re already sunburnt and broke: the public side is actually decent, and you still get that postcard view of the island without paying island-hotel money. It sits on the Budva Riviera, about 15–20 minutes south of Budva, basically glued to the famous islet by a narrow causeway. For backpackers, it’s a weird mix of glam and grit: the water is clear, the reddish pebbles are clean enough to pass the “sit down in wet shorts” test, and the scenery is absurdly photogenic, but the paid loungers eat half the shore and crowds spike hard in July–August. Swimming is calm, more “float and gossip” than “thrash in waves,” and there’s no real surf culture or serious diving scene. Compared with Mogren or Jaz near Budva, Sveti Stefan feels pricier, more controlled, and less party-heavy, but you can still find bus-accessible rooms and bakery lunches in nearby villages if you’re willing to walk ten minutes away from the causeway chaos.
