Tuschinski sits on Reguliersbreestraat, steps from Rembrandtplein in central Amsterdam. The pattern is simple: a working cinema draws film crowds, while the lobby draws photographers, so evenings are busier than weekday afternoons. Tickets cost less than most museums, yet the Art Deco and Amsterdam School interior outclasses many of them. It feels smaller than the Rijksmuseum, but far more intimate.

🛏️ Where to stay?Best areas and accommodation options

The best area for backpackers is the Centrum and Rembrandtplein side of town, since the theater sits on Reguliersbreestraat, a two-minute walk from Rembrandtplein. Hostels here cluster around Rembrandtplein, Leidseplein and the Nieuwmarkt, so you can walk to the theater, the flower market and Waterlooplein. The area is lively and busy at night, so expect noise but plenty of other solo travelers and well-lit streets. Dam Square and the Red Light District are 10 to 15 minutes away on foot, but are rowdier and prone to pickpockets. Jordaan and De Pijp are calmer, with cafés and a more local feel, and tram lines 4, 14 and 24 connect them quickly.
