- Big, wide sandy shore and sunrise/sunset walks — Noordwijk’s beach is unusually wide for this stretch of the Dutch coast, so you get huge open sand at low tide and an uninterrupted horizon. That makes for proper long walks (and memorable sunrises) where the sea, sky and dunes feel nearly cinematic. Personal favorite: an early-morning walk with only your footprints and fishing boats on the horizon — peaceful, empty and oddly energizing.
- Consistent wind sports (kitesurfing & windsurfing) — the North Sea off Noordwijk gets steady wind and a reliable swell, so the beach is a proper playground for kites and sails. The big flat sand at low tide also gives you safe launch zones and room to practice. It’s not a secret pro spot, but it’s one of the best accessible beaches nearby if you want to learn

It’s not a secret pro spot, but it’s one of the best accessible beaches nearby if you want to learn or get a solid session without trekking to the far north.
- Dune trails and Meijendel nature strip — the dunes just behind the beach aren’t just sand hills; they’re a living coastal landscape with carved paths, hidden viewpoints and seasonal wildflowers. You can escape the promenade, find quiet gullies, spot coastal birds, and follow trails that feel miles away from the town in just ten minutes. Great for picnics, birdwatching, or escaping a windy afternoon on the shore.
- Coastal history: bunkers and the lighthouse — stretch of coastline here carries real layers of history. Scattered wartime bunkers and a classic lighthouse give the beach a mood you don’t get on anonymous resort strips — cool for wandering, photography, and imagining the old coastal defenses. The lighthouse is particularly striking at dusk when it starts to glow against the sea.
- Moonlit walks and stargazing with a space-town vibe — at night the long, low-lying horizon makes Noordwijk excellent for moonlit or star-watching walks: the flat sea and clear stretches can make the Milky Way or bright satellites obvious on a good night. Noordwijk also has a local “space” identity (nearby aerospace facilities), so you’ll often find public talks or displays nearby in town — the beach itself is the best low-tech observatory.
