- Snøhetta massif — The park’s signature skyline: a broad, high alpine plateau topped by jagged summits. Hikeable routes (and a couple of huts nearby) give wide, trophy-worthy panoramas of glaciers, tundra and neighboring ranges — great for sunrise/sunset if you’re up for a long day or an overnight.
- Musk ox viewing — One of the few places in Europe with free-roaming musk oxen. They graze on the plateau and are spectacular to watch from a distance; encounters are best early morning or late evening and from the marked trails or viewpoints, never up close.
- Wild reindeer and alpine fauna — Big, semi-tame reindeer herds cross the high plateaus, and the area supports ptarmigan, waders and raptors (golden eagles show up on good days). It’s an excellent spot for wildlife photography if you’re patient

- Dovrefjell tundra and arctic-alpine plants — Vast, windswept tundra with surprising pockets of delicate alpine flowers and lichens in summer. The contrast between harsh stone and tiny blooms is a highlight for botanists and slow walkers alike.
- Sunndalen (Sunndal valley) and the Driva river — A dramatic, steep-walled valley on the park’s western edge with fast rivers, waterfalls and tight, scenic trails. Different mood than the wide plateau — more forested approaches and classic mountain valley scenery.
- Kongsvoll, Snøheim and classic hiking routes — Historic mountain lodges and well-marked trails make multi-day treks doable without fancy gear. Use these hubs as bases for day hikes to ridgelines, plateaus and the Snøhetta approaches.
