- Colchuck Lake & Colchuck Basin — That turquoise, glacial-fed lake with Colchuck Tower and Dragontail looming behind is the postcard shot everyone comes for. The sudden contrast between glassy blue water and sheer granite makes the approach feel cinematic, and in fall the larch-strewn meadows near the lake turn everything golden.
- Aasgard Pass — A steep, boulder-strewn scramble that’s the literal gateway into the Enchantments’ high basin. It’s brutal when you’re tired and glorious when you crest it: the panorama into the Core is one of those “worth every drop of sweat” moments that sets this traverse apart from tame ridgeline hikes.

- The Core/Upper Enchantments — the chain of alpine lakes — A compact amphitheater of glassy tarns, polished granite, and small meadows stacked like beads on a necklace. The light and reflections here are unreal; camping in the Core feels like being dropped into an alpine cathedral. (Personal favorite: waking up to that stillness and a dozen mirrored lakes.)
- Prusik Peak & Little Annapurna — Jagged granite spires that rise straight out of the lakes, iconic for climbers and irresistible to photographers. Their silhouettes at sunrise/sunset give the whole basin a sculpted, otherworldly look that you won’t find on most forested trails.
- Alpine wildlife & seasonal color (golden larches, pikas, mountain goats) — Pikas calling from talus, marmots sunning on boulders, and sometimes goats picking impossible ledges — plus a dramatic seasonal show when the larches turn gold. The combination of close-up wildlife and high-elevation color makes the Enchantments feel alive in a way many long hikes don’t.
